The Camping and Caravan Club

The Camping and Caravanning Club (CCC), has 13 regions nationwide. The South West Region is further divided into local areas known as District Associations (DAs). Each DA has its own committee who oversee activities. Cornwall DA was created in 1972 when Devon and Cornwall DA divided to form two separate District Associations. Several members involved at that time still actively camp with Cornwall DA.

The area covered by Cornwall DA stretches from the extreme west of Cornwall to Looe and north of Bude. This varied landscape ranges from stunning coastline to rural inland areas, such as Bodmin Moor. The area offers numerous attractions including National Trust properties, the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan – near the popular harbour at Mevagissey – and the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth. Although too numerous to mention, local attractions have something for all ages and abilities.

The Cornwall DA members are a very sociable crowd who regularly get together for communal barbecues, social evenings or even a simple game of rounders…

Newsletter

A quarterly newsletter is produced at a cost of 50 pence per issue. These can bought either by postal subscription (please contact the Editor whose details can be found on the Committee page) or at meets following printing.

Temporary Holiday Sites

Temporary Holiday Sites are run by volunteer DA members and run for approximately four weeks at different venues during the summer months. These provide a cheaper form of camping compared with commercial sites. Most have some facilities. See the Temporary Holiday Sites page for more details.

Camping Club Youths

This section is open to young people aged 12-17 years (inclusive). The general aim is to work towards the Youth Camping Test which encourages safe, responsible camping while still enjoying yourself.

Having passed the Test, a youngster of 14 or over is qualified to camp alone at Club meets or Youth Rallies as the Test covers everything about camping. This will include being able to pack all you need, select a pitch, erect your tent, prepare healthy meals, read a map and use a compass, know basic first aid etc. Youth camping can take place at ordinary meets plus Regional, National and International Rallies.

Members who pass the Youth Test before their 18th birthday are entitled to pay the lower CCY membership fees until their 21st birthday and a Senior Youth rate up until the age of 30.

All Camping Club Youth Leaders are experienced campers. For everyone's protection, all Leaders undergo a Police check (CRB check) in the same way as Scout/Guide Leaders or school teachers.

Camping Clubs Juniors

This section is for 8-11 year olds (inclusive). Most DAs have a Junior Leader (plus assistant) and activities are arranged at certain weekends for this age group.

A warm welcome awaits new members to Cornwall DA camping For new members joining the Cornwall DA, no fee is charged for the first weekend’s camping. A voucher is available when the DA Secretary receives a letter from Head Office stating that a new member has shown interest in DA camping by completing and returning the card relating to DAs which is included in the new members' pack. This offers those new to DA camping a chance to “test the water”. Contact the DA Secretary for more information.
